  2009 Regatta and SIR results

  This year we had three club volunteers to start the SIR races. The first SIR was started by Dennis Wagner of Minneapolis along with Brett Fialla of Chippewa Falls . The race on July 11th was started by Terri Bauernfeind and the SIR on August 8th was run by Duane Durand of Shell Lake. Commodore Tom Scott ran the Shell Lake Art Festival Regatt and the Shell Lake Town and Country Days Regatta.

June 13, 2009 SIR

Saturday was a wonderful day for sailing. The club had their SIR ( Sat. Informal Race) which we have the second Sat. of each summer month. The next SIR is on July 11th. Anyone is welcome to come out and race around a course picked by the starter. It is a lot of fun and you can see how others sail around. The first race was won by Randall Sippel of Minneapolis with crew Gary Vig from Cumberland . 2nd place went to Tom Scott of Shell Lake with crew Greg Kittelsen of Shell Lake . 3rd place went to Peter Moen of Plymouth , Minn with crew Steven Epp of Minneapolis .

  Saturday, July 4th - Shell Lake Art Festival Regatta

Only 6 sailboats showed up because of very light winds, however the winds did pick up an hour later so we could have a race. The race course was designed for 2 laps for a backdrop for the Arts Festival. Dennis Wagner of Minneapolis won the Catamaran division. The Single Hull Division was won by Brett Fialla from Eau Claire . 2nd place was Randall Sippel of Minneapolis and 3rd place went to Gary Vig of Cumberland .

July 11, 2009 SIR

We had wild winds coming from all directions for our sailboat race where we had to go around a triangular course twice. First place went to Randall Sippel from Minneapolis with his crew Gary Vig from Cumberland . Second went to the Commodore Tom Scott from Shell lake and his crew Greg Kittelsen of Shell Lake . Third place went to Elizabeth Bauernfeind from Plymouth , MN , with her crew Tim Bauernfeind (Father) and friend, Elsa Erickson The race was run by Terri Bauernfeind from Plymouth . Pete Segar from Burnsville, MN was our chase boat for the race and did a fine job.

August 8, 2009 SIR

There were light and variable winds and no sailboat racing, but we had a Pizza party at the beach courtesy of club member, Dennis Wagner of Minneapolis. Thanks Dennis!

Sunday, September 2 - Shell Lake Town & Country Days Sailing Regatta

We had some nice wind and seven sailboats participated in the Regatta. We broke them down into three divisions. The winner of the Catamaran Division was Dennis Wagner of Minneapolis. 2nd place was Nick Allen of Spooner. The Smaller Single Hull Division was won by 15 year old Matteo Alampi of Minneapolis. 2nd place was Katie Bauernfeind of Plymouth, MN. The Larger Single Hull Division was won by Bret Fialla of Chippewa Falls, 2nd place was Peter Moen of Plymouth, MN and 3rd place went to Tim Bauernfeind of Plymouth, MN. Dennis Wagner won the Shell Lake Cup - Travelling Trophy for the best results of someone with property on Shell Lake. The awards were supplied by Shell Lake Marine.
